Texas Bluebonnet Award Books
Ford Elementary is proud to be a participant in the Texas Bluebonnet Award Program. The TBA Program was established in 1979 to encourage Texas students to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. Emphasis is on characters that inspire young people with their integrity, courage, perseverance, generosity, compassion and loyalty. Students must read at least 5 books to qualify to vote for their favorite book by the end of January. Results from Texas schools are sent to the Texas Library Association and the winner is announced in February. Students reading 10 or more books from the Texas Bluebonnet list will be acknowledged at the end of the year award ceremonies. Students reading all 20 books will receive special recognition. They also will be allowed to check out 5 books from the library. We read 5 books from the list during library class time. Forms are available in the library to help students keep track of their reading. See the following website for the list of current Texas Bluebonnet nominated books.
