Welcome to my home page! I am a Reading Recovery/Literacy teacher at
Ford
Elementary.
Education, Teaching Background, and Other Information:
 | Education: I graduated from Texas Woman's University in Denton,
Texas in 1977. I received a B.S. in Business Education. In 1987,
I went "back to school" at Southwestern University in Georgetown
to obtain my elementary certification. I am a trained Reading
Recovery Teacher. |
 | I taught High School Business Courses for four years, then stopped to be
at home with my two children. After obtaining my elementary
certification, I taught 6th. grade at Hutto Elementary. In 1990, I
started teaching in Georgetown. The first year here, I taught T-1,
then I taught first grade for 13 years. When the opportunity came
along, I made a change from being a regular classroom teacher, to become a
Reading Recovery/Literacy teacher at Ford Elementary. |
 | We have lived in Georgetown for 22 years. My husband, Jimmy, works for
Oncor. We have two children, Corrie and Josh. Corrie is a
graduate of Texas A and M. She works in Waco, at the Region XII
Service Center in the Language Arts Curriculum Department. She and her husband, Ryan,
have one daughter, Clara, who is also our first Granddaughter! They are
expecting twin boys in January of 2010. We are very excited to become
Grandparents to three very soon. They also
have three miniature schnauzers, who I call my "Grand-Dogs".
|

 |
Being a Grandmother is my favorite title so far in my life.
We enjoy spending time with Clara. I love sewing and smocking for her.
Of course, she loves books and being read to! We are looking forward to
spending time with Clara and her brothers as well. |
 | Josh is a graduate of Texas A and M University. His
degree is in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. He enjoys hunting and
fishing with his Dad. Josh is getting married on November 20, to Kathryn
Kastner. We already love Katie and are most excited that she will soon
be a part of our family. |

 | We live in a historical home here in Georgetown and enjoy our pets
and many projects that are endless. We have two Miniature
Schnauzers, two German Short-hairs, and one cat. We
love to garden. I enjoy reading, sewing, quilting, smocking, and
cooking. |

During this school year, I hope to:
 | Teach your child to be the best that he or she can be. |
 | Teach your child to have a love for reading and writing. |
 | Teach your child that he or she can do anything if they have
the desire and choose to work hard enough. |
How you can help your child be successful:

 | Communicate with his/her teacher often. |
 | Read with your child every day. |
 | Talk to your child. |
 | Be involved with your child's education. |
How you can help your child with reading at home:

 | Be sure that you sit with your child when he reads. |
 | When he comes to a tricky part, use the following
prompts: |
 | Does it
look right? |
 | Does it
sound right? |
 | Does it
make sense? |
 | How
will that word start? |
 | Were
you right? |
 | How do
you know? |
 | Don't stop reading to your child just because he can read to you now. |
|
