I teach Photojournalism and Advanced
Journalism Yearbook l and ll and Advanced Journalism Broadcasting l and ll.
Education & Teaching Background:
 | B.A. in Photography from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville,
Texas. I have an English and Journalism minor. |
 | 13 years experience at GISD |
 | Before teaching, my employment history included writer/photographer for
Kyle Free Press, and photographer's assistant Bob Robert's Photography in
Austin. |
 | Currently, in addition to teaching, my fine art images have hung in
various galleries around Texas. Weddings and portraits round out my
photography experience. I specialize in documentary photography including
sports. |

Important information:
Photojournalism students will be required to have
access to a 35 mm film camera and a digital camera. Students will learn
black and white processing, ethics and study
famous photographers.
 | A $25.00 lab fee is required from each students for darkroom supplies and
film. |
 | Photojournalism is a journalism course and students will be required to
learn the basics of news and feature writing and caption writing. |
Advanced Journalism Yearbook I students learn the
basics of yearbook design.
 | This is a UIL course and UIL rules are followed. Students are encouraged
to try out for the Journalism team. |
 | This course requires after school hours and some summer work. |
 | Students are required to sell one advertisement per nine weeks. |
Advanced Journalism Yearbook II students are the
editors and assistant editors of the yearbook.
 | Editors are selected on the basis of their expertise in design, writing,
organization, and photography. |
 | Typically, there is an editor-in-chief and five section editors. |
 | This course requires after school hours and some summer work. |
 | Students are required to sell one advertisement per nine weeks. |
Broadcast Journalism students write for radio and
television and produce broadcast for community television. Filmmaking and
editing techniques will be explored in student driven projects. This class will
require some out of class time. Students will filmm sporting events for the
school to be directly viewed by the community on the stadium JumboTron.
