Photo Essay Assignment 1

Theme: Small Town Life/Community

 

The purpose of this assignment is to capture aspects of the community and to assess the level of your photographic skills. This assignment will count as major grades.  If using film, get it commercially processed (HEB, Wal-Mart, etc.) or take digital photographs and have them printed at (HEB or Wal-Mart, etc.).  You may use either color or black and white film.  From your photographs, you will turn one photo from each of the following categories.  There will be a total of five (5) photos turned in.

 

                 Faces – (get close)

                 Architecture

                 Recreation – the community relaxing

                 Nature (flowers, trees, birds, landscape, etc.)

                 Night

 

*Do not limit yourself to one shooting location.  School events like athletic events are part of the community.

 

*The final photographs must be turned in mounted in a book form (no poster boards) with cutlines: cutlines must be at least two (2) sentences.  Cutlines must contain all important information, the names of the people, what they are doing, when the event occurred, where the event occurred, and any other information that you can discover. Cutline writing will be discussed in class. 

 

*Do not wait until the last minute to begin the assignment.  There are many problems that can occur when using cameras; plan for them.
