Welcome to my home page! I am the newspaper adviser and journalism teacher at Georgetown High
School. I also teach broadcast journalism, and American history.
Education & Teaching Background:
- My degrees are in Journalism. I attended the University of Houston
and the University of Texas.
- I have taught in the GISD for fifteen years.
- Before teaching at the high school, I taught English at the middle school
level at Georgetown Jr. High and Benold Middle School.

Topics covered in classes:
- Journalism - news reporting; feature writing; desktop publishing;
advertising; ethics; editorial writing; movie reviews.
- Newspaper - writing; desktop publishing; publishing a paper every six
weeks
- Broadcast - writing for radio and television; preparing a broadcast
for community television. We are also responsible for filming the
football games for the score.
- American History - history from the Civil War to present.
This class is for eleventh graders and they will be taking the TAKS exit
test in the Spring.

Current Projects:
- Journalism: History of journalism and ethics.
- Newspaper: Understanding the software and preparing for first
edition.
- Broadcast: Understanding equipment and talking with the PIO
at City of Georgetown.
- American History: Review of early American History - chapters
1-3, colonization and Revolution.
School Involvements:
- I am the Interact sponsor at GHS. Interact is the high school
branch of Rotary
International.
- Students can compete in UIL Journalism events from the
ILPC at the University of Texas. Journalism events are headline
writing, news reporting, feature writing, and editorial writing.
Competitions are held on Saturdays throughout the region in January through
April.
