PROGRAM INFORMATION Thank you for your interest in the Georgetown Eagles golf teams. The teams are comprised of varsity, junior varsity and freshmen players. Each team will play 3-4 tournaments in the fall and 3-4 in the spring, preceding District play which begins the end of March. We hope to qualify for the Regional (late April) and State (mid-May) tournaments to follow. The following information is provided to give prospective players and parents a better understanding of the expectations and requirements for participation on the team. We have been fortunate to have dedicated players and supportive parents. We have been ranked among the top teams in the state the past few years. We expect next year to be our best yet.
Any student wanting to try-out must turn in a physical to the coach prior to any try-out. All student athletes must have the following paperwork on file in order to participate in athletics for the 2008 – 2009 year:
Prospective players will be evaluated on the following:
PLAYER EXPECTATIONS
PRACTICE SCHEDULE Time: The golf athletics period begins at 2:14pm. Meet in the Athletics Study Hall (ATSH). Daily
Schedule: A monthly practice schedule will be posted on the web site / calendar page. Adjustments will be made due to weather conditions or course availability.
RESPECT FOR FACILITIES AND STAFF We are guests of the facilities we are allowed to practice on. This is true even for players that are members of those clubs. While with the team players have no membership rights entitling them to any action or practice not available to the team as a whole. Team members should conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and be respectful to the employees and members of the facility. Remember, you will be associated with the team even during non-practice time so represent the team properly. DRESS CODE
Varsity golfers may play in no more than seven tournaments plus the district, regional, and state tournaments each school year. The junior varsity schedule is dependent upon the availability of JV tournaments with a maximum of seven events per player. The coaches will select players for varsity or junior varsity competition based on previous tournament scores, practice development, attitude and coaches assessment. We encourage you to come watch our teams during tournaments. Spectators and coaches are limited in their contact or interactions with the players. See the following regulations from the UIL manual.
Coaches/Spectators.
The following rules should be discussed with all participants and
coaches. Coaches, parents, and interested spectators should be reminded that
they are spectators and it is not their responsibility to report possible
rule violations. Rule violations should be reported by the players or the
marshals of the meet. Parents, friends, and other spectators should stay a
substantial distance from competitors during play. After play has started,
coaches and parents may not coach or advise players. A player is subject to a
two stroke penalty on the first offense and disqualification by tournament
officials if the coaching continues. On course encouragement, support, applause,
etc is not considered coaching or advice; therefore, it is permissible. Also,
coaches are allowed, in fact encouraged, to talk with their players at the turn
(after 9 holes) as long as starting play on the back nine is not unduly delayed. PHYSICAL HEALTH
LESSONS Athletes must
discuss problems with their coach first. If the problem is not resolved a
parent conference will be scheduled. If grievance is still not resolved
objections will be heard in the following order:
Any violation of the above policies may include any or all of the following consequences:
