The Georgetown Cross Country program is composed of pride, perseverance, and excellence.  For 12 years now, Kellye Richardson, has continued to take pride in the tradition of the cross country program at Georgetown High School.  Richardson was promoted to head coach of the girls cross country team in 1993.  Since then, her teams have won eight district championships, made nine regional appearances, as well as, eight state appearances, finishing second in 1993, third in 1996, sixth in 1994, 1997, 1999, 2002, and eighth in 2001, 2002, in the state cross country championships.
      While attending Pampa High School, Richardson competed in track.  She ran track for three years, and qualified for regional in the 100 meter hurdles.  Richardson also competed in basketball for Pampa High School.  She later played for Amarillo Junior College and Texas Tech University from 1980-1984.  Richardson received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in physical education and a minor in Health.  She was a graduate assistant coach for the lady raiders in 1985.  Richardson joined Coach Farney's staff in 1988 and for the last 18 years has also been the junior varsity basketball coach in basketball.
     Richardson's other responsibilities include  working with the middle school programs in the spring.  In 1999 Richardson was voted on by the NFICA committee as assistant coach of the year in the state of Texas and nationally.  Richardson's philosophy is based on a very solid foundation that can and must be adjusted to each team's specific talents.  Richardson believes in discipline, knowledge, fundamentals, team play, repetition, and patience. She believes that athletes learn by repetitive hard work.  It is important to instill in athletes the desire to do everything correctly--not to give up on something but to persevere until it is mastered.
