Student Assistance &
Intervention Liaison
"You can't change the direction on
the wind, but you can change the SAILS."
What is SAIL?
SAIL is a problem solving process. It helps
students overcome any problems related to grades, attendance, or behavior.
With parental permission, students are connected to
existing on-campus services and/or community resources that will help them
overcome their problems.
How are Students Referred to
the SAIL Team?
Students can be referred by fellow
students, staff, parents, community members, and self. All referrals are
kept strictly confidential.
Contact a campus counselor or campus SAIL
team coordinator for a SAIL referral form.
What Happens After a SAIL
Referral?
 |
The SAIL team gathers data, such as as
grades, attendance, work samples, discipline referrals, and classroom teacher
observations to determine if and where there are significant problems
occurring.
|
 |
This data collection may lead to a plan
of action. The student may be referred to on-campus resources such as
special education, bilingual or English as a Second Language support,
counseling, mentoring, tutorials, literacy services, etc.
|
 |
Parent or student conferences and
questionnaires may be obtained to provide valued input to the SAIL team.
These are seen as an essential element in the development of a plan of action
for the student.
|
 |
At times the problem is beyond the scope
and responsibility of the school. The parents are then given information
about community-based services. |
