Homework: will be assigned every class meeting and will usually be from the workbook accompanying each chapter. Homework and daily in-class work will account for 25% of students' grade. Students are also expected to practice vocabulary and grammar items each day (at least 15 min.) in order to be prepared for in-class work and/or quizzes both announced and unannounced. Tests/Quizzes: tests account for 75% of a student's average and quizzes are entered as 1/2 of a test grade. We will have at least 3 tests during each 9-week period and one additional test over the ring binder kept in Latin class may be given at teacher's discretion. Absences/Makeup Work: students are solely responsible for obtaining all makeup work either before or after school. I will be available each day both before and after. A-Days, however, I will be returning to my room at the Annex and it usually takes about 30 minutes for me to get there. ALL notes taken in class must be obtained from your "Latin Buddy" ASAP! I recommend that each student have at least two "Latin Buddies" whose phone numbers they have recorded in an eternally accessible location specifically for obtaining any missing assignments/notes, etc... I will strictly adhere to district policy on makeup work (see your student handbook!!) Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to be prepared each class meeting with homework assignments and all grammar/vocabulary items per chapter. Students are not to do other class work/read in Latin class unless specifically indicated. You, the student, are expected to bring paper, pens of various ink colors (at least 2; I'm not picky!), pencils/erasers, and your ring binder with all copies handed out in an "intelligent" order to every class meeting! I always encourage students to be very vocal in class about their perception of concepts in both grammar and vocabulary. Always ask questions!! Parents, feel free to call me @ 7345 or 8089 for any and all questions not answered here! Student Averages: I will not release a student's average during a class period! I use class time for teaching Latin to everyone in the class and not for reassuring one or two individuals about their academic standing. I understand and appreciate the fact that students need to know these things and for that reason you, the student, are expected to keep all graded assignments (and pretty much everything else I hand you!) in an "intelligent" order in your Latin ring-binder. If this is accomplished you will be able to make an educated estimate of your average all by yourself. I will be happy to print you out a "progress report" so that you and your parents are able to see your grades but the request must be made either before or after school. Tardies/Discipline: I will strictly adhere to the district's policy on tardies. If you are not in your desk when the bell rings you are tardy. For all guidelines on discipline please refer to the Student Handbook! |
