We recommend that parents consider the following to insure a smooth transition from school to life after High School: Have you completed the following for your child to transition from School to Adult Living?
Can my child go to college? Special Education students can attend many Technical Schools, Community Colleges, and Universities. Specific requirements vary and parents should contact Special Education personnel at the High School, the desired educational institution before the Senior year, or the agency representative from DARS or MHMR to learn the requirements and procedures required for enrollment.
Can my child start working? Employment can begin in High School through the Vocational Adjustment Co-op (VAC), or Community Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI) programs. After students have completed their required 28 High School credits they may become eligible for the Georgetown High School Bridges program.
