KXAN Teachers of the Week

Every week, KXAN salutes one special teacher who's making a difference in the lives of Central Texas kids.  This year, Georgetown ISD has had two teachers honored on the news.

Katie Day, a second grade special education and autism teacher at Annie Purl Elementary, was named KXAN's Teacher of the Week for November 20, 2006.   The KXAN Report noted: "Day is always available to her special needs students and encourages parents dealing with the tough transition.  Parents say what makes Day stand out is that she is a friend to their children who often live in a socially lonely world."

The report is linked on the KXAN website.

In September, another GISD teacher was also honored as the KXAN Teacher of the Week for September 19, 2006.  Carole Watson, the art teacher at Village Elementary, received that award.

The KXAN report noted: "Carol Watson teaches Kindergarten through fifth grade art at Georgetown ISD's Village Elementary. Parents say she's bursting with energy and students are drawn to her creativity. Everything from Kindergarten paper mache to fifth grade Van Gogh projects are displaced all over Georgetown promoting a sense of community. Parents say she is a creative catalyst that brings students, parents and teachers together on a path for excellence." The report is also linked on the KXAN website.

Congratulations, Ms. Watson and Ms. Day!
