GISD Libraries Raise Funds for City Library
Recently, the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library launched an initiative called the High Five fund raiser to help furnish the new public library. During Children's Book Week (November 13-19, 2006), each GISD librarian will promote this fund raiser in the most appropriate manner for the individual campuses using the High Five profile. [The goal of the campaign is to raise $55, 555.55 through persons "donating any amount of money with a 5 in it."] Whatever monies are collected within this time frame will then be pooled and a single sum contributed from all students and staff. We will request that our contribution help to furnish the children and young adult areas of the new library.
Georgetown Independent School District has often partnered with the City of Georgetown to reach mutual goals. Thanks to city policies every young person in our district may receive a student library card at no charge regardless of whether he or she resides within the city limits. Each campus may borrow books and non-print materials through inter-library loan to supplement their own collections.
