In November 2005 Georgetown Independent School District patrons supported passage of a $97,080,000 bond issue.  I want to take this opportunity to update you on the bond construction projects as well as discuss future needs.

  • Phase 1 of a New High School:  The new high school will be located at Highway 29 and County Road 104.  It is currently under construction with Phase I on schedule to be completed in June 2008.  All GISD ninth grade students will be served at that campus beginning in August 2008.  The existing Ninth Grade Campus will be utilized to serve students in grades 10-12 as part of the current Georgetown High School campus.

  • Support Services Building:  Also located on the property at Highway 29 and County Road 104 is the new support services building which is on schedule to be completed in May 2007.  This facility will house transportation, maintenance and custodial services, and nutrition services.

  • Multi-Purpose Stadium:  The new multi-purpose stadium is located off Austin Avenue and County Road 151.  It will complete the GISD Athletic Complex in conjunction with the existing softball field, track, tennis courts, and baseball field.  These athletic facilities will serve both our existing High School and our new High School as well.  The stadium is currently under construction and on schedule to be completed between January and May of 2008.

  • Cooper Elementary Classroom Addition:  Nine classrooms were added to Cooper Elementary to accommodate an additional 180 students.  This project has been completed, and the classrooms are being utilized.

  • Renovate Carver Elementary:  Carver Elementary was scheduled for a complete renovation, a 1600 square foot addition, and a much needed bus loop.  Ten classrooms have been completed.  Work is in progress to complete the remaining projects by August 2007.
