GISD 2007 Preliminary TAKS Results

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of you on our strong TAKS results for this year!!!  GISD has outperformed the state in all 27 areas tested on met standards AND in all 27 areas on commended performance.

It is through your constant efforts day in and day out for our students that GISD continues to improve student performance.  As our district continues to grow in enrollment and in diversity of student population, you give your best every day to our students.

Truly, outperforming the state in every area on met standard and commended performance is a tremendous accomplishment.  You and your students have been working hard.  It shows.  We are double-digits above the state performance in secondary math.  Also, in science, we are outperforming the state by double digits.  For example, inn 5th grade we are 12 percentage points above the state average.

I have attached the Spring 2007 Percent Met Standards on TAKS and the Spring 2007 Percent Commended on TAKS  results.  You can access these through the more information link below.   At this point, we only have results by grade from the state. So the charts reflect each grade level and subject tested.   Kudos to you!!

Of great noteworthiness is our commended performance.  For a student to achieve commended performance, he/she can only miss a very few questions.  (Like scoring an A+ on the test)    Such great results!

A few highlights include:

50% of 3rd graders were commended in Reading

61% of 6th grades were commended in Reading

54% of 8th graders were commended in Reading

39% of 9th graders were commended in Reading

32% of 11th graders were commended in ELA

56% of 5th graders were commended in Math

50% of 6th graders were commended in Math

31% of 9th graders were commended in Math

31% of 11th graders were commended in Math

40% of 4th graders were commended in Writing

38% of 7th graders were commended in Writing

49% of 5th graders were commended in Science

21% of 10th graders were commended in Science

47% of 8th graders were commended in Social Studies

42% of 10th graders were commended in Social Studies

48% of 11th graders were commended in Social Studies

Wow! How impressive!  Just think that over half of all the 5th graders tested in Math demonstrated full mastery of the TEKS as tested on TAKS.

Again, a personal thank you for all you give to every student, every day.  I wish you a very relaxing, restful summer.  You deserve it!
