Three GISD Schools Named to the 2007 Texas Business & Education Coalition Honor Roll

The Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) recently named three schools in the Georgetown Independent School District to the 2007 TBEC Honor Roll.

The schools, Village Elementary, Pickett Elementary, and the Georgetown High School Ninth Grade Campus were recognized by the TBEC for having a high percentage of students meeting commended state standards on the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test in all subjects for three consecutive years.  This is the second consecutive year that Village Elementary has received this honor.

The TBEC Honor Roll places an emphasis on how many students scored at the state’s highest standard – Commended – on all tests. Also taken into consideration by the TBEC were the student demographics, the number of subjects tested and the grade level of students at each school.

The most significant part of this award is the fact that these schools were recognized for their accomplishment when compared to other schools with similar demographics across the state over a three year period. GISD is extremely proud of the teachers, students, administrators and community surrounding each of these schools.

The Georgetown ISD schools were three of only 385 schools selected out of more than 8,000 public schools from across the state. The schools also represent three of the ten schools in Williamson County to be named to the TBEC Honor Roll.

Congratulations to the teachers, students, parents, administrators and support staff at these campuses! Being named a TBEC Honor Roll school is a prestigious academic award.  Less than 5% of Texas schools will be so honored in 2007.
