GISD Education Foundation Awards First Grants

Today the Georgetown ISD Education Foundation grant dream team traveled around the district to present 60 GISD teachers and staff grant funding for over $50,000.  The Education Foundation received 35 Innovative Teaching Grant applications in October, reviewed them and approved funding for the top 14 totaling $40,051.44.  The grants were made possible by generous donations from the Georgetown community.  During the grant process GISD administrators approved district funding for four other grant applications totaling $10,993.25.   At each stop the dream team entered the school with balloons, whistles and lots of cheering to surprise the grant winners in their classrooms with their students present to see their accomplishments.

All of the winners will be recognized at the December 17 Board of Trustees meeting.  The document linked below lists all of the funded grants and gives a brief description of each.

The Georgetown ISD Education Foundation was formed last spring and is an independent non-profit charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors.  The sole purpose of the newly formed Education Foundation is to benefit the Georgetown Independent School District by providing funds for educational programs and activities which are not funded by the normal operating budget.  These funds will be used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, to recognize and encourage staff excellence and to expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations.
