Registration Open for Academic Acceleration Exams - Deadline to Register is May 23rd
Georgetown ISD is offering opportunities this summer for secondary students to earn credit in academic subjects and for elementary students to accelerate a grade level by passing the appropriate examinations for acceleration. Exams will be offered for students currently enrolled in grades K-5, and for most TEKS-based courses in grades 6-12.
The purpose of examination for acceleration is to allow a student to accelerate and earn credit for a particular course or grade level without formal instruction in that course or grade level. The student must score a minimum of 90% on the required test(s) taken for secondary courses or the grade level the student wants to skip. Elementary students must earn a 90% on each exam (language arts, math, science, and social studies) in order to accelerate.
Testing dates have been set for June 24-26 and July 1-3. Any GISD student is eligible to participate in testing without charge at the time of the regularly scheduled administration.
Registration packets are available from any counselor’s office or from the curriculum office at the GISD Central Administration Building located at 603 Lakeway Drive. Registration forms must be returned to one of these locations by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008.
Questions concerning the examination for acceleration program or kindergarten acceleration may be directed to Becky McCoy, Assessment Director, at 943-5000, ext. 6034 or to Denise Gunn, Assessment Secretary, at ext. 6098.
