Examination for Acceleration Dates Set

Georgetown ISD is offering opportunities this summer for secondary students to earn credit in academic subjects and for elementary students to accelerate a grade level by passing the appropriate examinations for acceleration. Exams will be offered for all grade levels 1 - 5 and all TEKS-based courses in grades 6 - 12. The purpose of examination for acceleration is to allow a student to accelerate and earn credit for a particular course or grade level without formal instruction in that course or grade level. The student must score a minimum of 90% on the required tests taken for the appropriate course/grade the student wants to skip. Elementary students must earn a 90 percent on each grade-level exam (language arts, math, science, and social studies) in order to accelerate.

Review sheets for available exams can be downloaded here.

Testing dates have been set for June 23, 24 and 25 and July 7, 8 and 9. Any GISD student is eligible to participate in testing without charge at the time of the regularly scheduled administration.

Students interested in participating in the examination for acceleration program should pick up a registration form from the counselor's office at their school or the curriculum office at the Central Administration Building. You can also download a registration form from our website. Registration forms must be returned to your school counselor's office or the curriculum office at the Central Administration Building by 3:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2009.

Questions concerning the examination for acceleration program or Kindergarten acceleration may be directed to Becky McCoy, GISD Assessment Director, at 943-5000, ext. 6034 or Denise Gunn, Assessment Secretary, at ext. 6098.
