Meet Mrs. Bonnell

Welcome!  I am a Gifted and Talented Facilitator for McCoy Elementary.

Your scholar and I...

This year our class will explore a wide variety of mathematical ideas, and our goal is for the mathematically gifted students to learn to value mathematics, become confident in their own ability to do mathematics, become mathematical problem solvers, learn to communicate mathematically, and learn to reason mathematically.

Problem solving is the central focus of this class.  It is a process that will provide the context in which concepts and skills will be learned.  Students will share their thinking and approaches with other students and with their teacher, and will learn several ways of representing problems and strategies for solving them.  I hope they will learn to value the process of solving problems as much as they value the solutions.

We will explore the interconnectedness of the different branches of mathematics and the relationship of mathematics to other fields and the world around us.
