PARENT EXPECTATIONS

Sign the assignment book each night and check to see that homework is completed.
Read and practice math facts with your child at home.
Read notes in (and sign) Tuesday folders to stay informed of school events.
Communicate with child about transportation home before school each morning.
Keep an open line of communication with teachers.

HOMEWORK POLICY

All homework should be completed and returned the following day.

Late work is 10 points off each day that it is late.  This is a district policy.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURE

Responsibility cards are found in your child's binder, and they should be initialed each night.  They will remain there for the entire nine weeks.  If a mark is given, the number referring to the behavior will be listed.  Please remember that all scholars get verbal warnings before receiving conduct marks.

In the event that the first offense was severe (fighting, stealing, or cheating) he/she will automatically be sent to the office.  Parents will receive a phone call if this occurs.

ABSENCES

If your child is absent, they must bring a written excuse with them upon their return to school.  If you know in advance that your child will be absent, let me know and I will try to prepare his/her homework.  Please give me at least 24 hours notice so I can have all of the assignments organized appropriately.

CONFERENCES

I believe communication between parents and teachers is essential for a successful school year.  I may request a conference if I see your child is not as successful as he/she could be in a particular discipline.  Likewise, I would like for you to contact me if you feel the need for a conference.

I do require that the conferences are scheduled, so if you would like to set up a conference send me a note, email me, or call me at school.   Please try to avoid calling or coming by during regular class hours to avoid disturbing classroom instruction.

BIRTHDAYS

We love to celebrate birthdays at school!  When your child’s birthday is coming up, we always welcome treats for the scholars in the class.  Please let me know in advance if you will be sending in a treat to celebrate your child’s birthday.

TUESDAY FOLDERS

Each Tuesday, scholars will bring home their Eagle folders, also called “Tuesday Folders”.  These folders will contain work graded from the previous week.  There will also be important letters from the class and school.

Parents must sign the sheet stapled in the front cover of the folder and return the emptied folder (except for the signature sheet) Wednesday morning.

Failure to return the folder will result in a conduct mark.  Remember, this is like a homework assignment that third graders should make sure they do (show their parents their work and get the folder signed by a parent).

STUDY TIPS

One way to help children make a habit of completing homework neatly and on time is to have an area at home designated for homework.  This area should be well-lit and well-stocked with pencils, paper, etc. 

A good breakfast, lunch, and dinner will give your child the energy to work to the best of his/her ability.  A snack before homework time sometimes helps with this energy boost.

Reading daily will help your child improve his/her reading skills.  All third grade students are required to read each night to help encourage this. 

Calling out math fact flashcards will improve your child’s ability to recall facts faster.  This will help as he/she learns more difficult math concepts.
