Frequently Asked Questions about Mr. Koenig in
the Army
Why did you join the Army?
I joined the Army so that I could do something I love and
serve my country. I did not want to miss the opportunity to do something
great, especially while I am still young and able.
What do you do in the Army?
I am a part of the 36th Infantry Division Band, stationed at
Camp Mabry in Austin. My job is to be a musician. I get to play my trumpet
in a concert band, a marching band, a jazz band, and a Latin band. My unit
gets asked to play at many functions throughout the year, including this
year's Cotton Bowl
parade in Dallas (click
for more information).
What did you get to do in Basic Training?
I took the same Basic Training course as any other soldier,
so I got to do the same things as any other soldier.
How often do you do Army training?
Since I am in the Army National Guard, I meet with the band
about once every month. During busy stretches, however, the band can meet as
many as three or four weekends in a row. That's a lot of gigs!
Are you different now?
I like to think that I am a new and improved version of
myself. I may have different stories, but I am the same Mr. Koenig that you
knew before. Hopefully, I am a little bit better than before joining the
Army. And, hopefully I will continue to improve with time.
