Here's what we've been up to in ART!

August-September:

3rd Grade:  Students are studying the element of LINE, and also repetition and pattern. Beginning with an organic design with several inside areas, students used markers to create colorful line designs that repeated and created a lively pattern.  Students also learned about how to turn a 2-dimensional design into a 3-dimensional design.  Our flat paper designs were cut out, twisted, turned and stapled to a background to create a 3-D sculpture.  Be sure to watch for some awesome examples on the Projects link.  The paper sculptures can also be seen in the McCoy hallways.

4th Grade:  Students have busily been working in the Computer Lab during Art class for weeks.  Similar to Pop artist Andy Warhol's wildly colored portraits of Marilyn Monroe, the 4th graders are creating some wild looking portraits of themselves.  To create these Pop Art photos, students learned how to use Microsoft Photo Editor to alter the colors and textures of a normal photograph.  This was so much fun, and we happened to sneak in some art and technology skills at the same time.  Watch for these to show up in the McCoy hallways soon, as well as on the Projects link.  I am still collecting $1 donations to help cover the costs of photo developing.

Future Activities:

We will be studying Op Art soon, and creating some fun optical illusions with our art.  More drawing and painting projects are ahead, too.  It is possible that we will work with clay before the Christmas holiday break.  Stay tuned!
