Here's what we've been up to in ART! August & September 2009: All Grades: During the first week of school, we are drawing our self-portraits from head to toe. All students, staff, faculty, and principals are also drawing themselves. ALL of these drawings will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office. "Where's Waldo?" ---Forget Waldo! Where's our principal & teacher? It will be great fun to find our teachers, staff and students, too. 3rd Grade: We are learning about Picasso and Cubism. Students will create a portrait of a person in the Cubist style. 4th Grade: In 4th grade, we begin our Pop Art study. In particular, we will create Andy Warhol-like self-portraits from photographs -- using the computer lab. This project will take about 5 weeks to complete. It is a much anticipated "4th grade" art project that is a lot of fun! To cover the cost of photo lab developing, I am asking for a $1.00 donation from each student, if you are able. 5th Grade: We are beginning a Drawing unit in fifth grade. Students will begin with contour line drawings, and progress to value drawings of animals. The elements of line, shape, form, and value will be studied. Future Activities: Watch for new artwork in the halls!
