The GISD school year calendar is given to all students and their parents upon enrollment. Copies are available through the McCoy office and on the GISD website at http://www.georgetownisd.org/  School Information and activities may be found in teachers' newsletters, principal's calendar/newsletter or the school website at http://www.georgetownisd.org/mccoy/

Below are some specific areas of interest:

bulletSelection for PALS (for 5th graders only) is in September. Participation begins in September/October and ends in May.
bulletMatches for the Mentoring Program are made early in the fall. Selection continues throughout the school year as mentors become available.
bulletAssessment information includes reading diagnostic tests, checkpoints, benchmarks, and TAKS tests for all students; RPTE (Reading Proficiency Test in English) for all Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. Field tests may be administered to selected students. Credit for Acceleration is available once yearly. For a complete Assessment Calendar for GISD, go to http://www.georgetownisd.org/filing_cabinet/curriculum/AssessmentTestDates.pdf
bulletFor gifted/talented classes, new students are screened at parent request upon enrollment.  Identification begins in January for any student not currently eligible as G/T in a specific area  with placement to begin in the fall. G/T committees meet to review all available information and make decisions regarding program eligibility. Parents are notified as soon as the process is complete, usually in May. More information may be found at this website under PROGRAMS.
bulletSpring registration for 5th graders begins in March. Parents are notified of the registration process through a letter from the Middle School Principals. Middle school counselors meet with 5th grade staff and students to discuss registration and choice sheets. The middle schools host an evening orientation for parents and students.
bulletNeed and eligibility for Section 504, screenings, S.A.I.L. referrals, counseling and other support services occur throughout the year. The ultimate goal is to provide quality learning experiences that develop the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes for continued success of all students.
