The President

As the leader of the Student Council, the president is responsible for announcing meetings, preparing the meeting room, having the necessary papers and supplies at each meeting, and conducting the actual meeting.  To this end, he/she must:  prepare an agenda, call the meeting to order and follow the agenda, lead the discussion, refrain from taking part in the discussion, be able to explain and summarize the discussion for others, vote only when there is a tie, count votes, and announce vote results to the Council.

The Vice President

The vice president serves as the president’s chief assistant and must therefore know the president’s job thoroughly and be able to replace him/her in case of absence.  The vice president also coordinates committees.

The Secretary

The secretary is responsible for keeping a record of attendance at each meeting.  The secretary also writes the minutes...a written record of each meeting...including the wording of each motion and the number of votes for a and against each motion.  He/she must read the minutes from the previous meetings, write and respond to any letters pertaining to Council business and publicize all meetings.

The Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible for keeping neat and accurate records of all Student Council money and how that money is spent.  The treasurer must keep a record book, prepare budgets, and pay bills (with staff assistance).  The treasurer also reports on financial matters at each meeting.

The Historian

The historian has the responsibility of chronicling the Council events and activities for the entire year.  This is done by completing a scrapbook.

The Parliamentarian

The job of the parliamentarian is to teach the rules of parliamentary procedure to the Council and to make sure that they are followed by all members during a meeting.
