Welcome to my home page! My name is Abby Ray, and I teach English I and PreAP English I at the Georgetown Ninth Grade Campus. My Education & Teaching Background:

This year, our class will be covering: - Selected short stories, The Odyssey, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Selected non-fiction works, and the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. In addition, PreAP classes will read Dickens' Great Expectations. Students will also be writing essays and covering basic grammar skills throughout the year. ***PreAP Summer Reading for 2008-2009 School Year:
Choose ONE of the following

Cather
Jane Eyre by Charlotte
Bronte
(You must
have ONE of the above novels read
prior to the first day of school).
Note: ALL
Pre-AP English teachers at the Ninth Grade Campus require
students to read one of the above novels!
Please purchase your
own copy of the novel and bring it to class on the first day of
school.
Student recommendations:
*Highlight and annotate your
book.
*Take notes in a spiral notebook
to review before the test.
* Read background information on
the Internet.
* Make sure you are familiar with
terms like protagonist, antagonist, climax, theme, plot,
symbolism, resolution, internal/external conflict, epiphany,
flashback, foreshadowing.
