March 12, 2010 

 

TOPIC:  Georgette Auditions

 

If you are interested in auditioning for the 2010–2011 Georgette Dance Team please pick up an audition packet which are available from Mrs. Johnson at the Dance Office. The last mandatory Parent/Candidate meeting will be March 22nd at 6:00 pm in the Annex Dance Studio. You

must attend ONE of these meetings in order to audition for the team.

 

 

TOPIC:  Track Fundraiser at Applebees

 

There will be an Applebee's Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for the Georgetown High School Track  Teams on Saturday, March 20th from 8am-10am at the Georgetown  Applebee's. Tickets are $6 per person, available at the door. (Note:  Everyone will receive a $5 coupon for Applebee's at the door,

good for their next visit to Applebee's) Meal includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage, coffee, water, and juice.

 

 

TOPIC:  Driver Ed

 

The next class for Driver Ed will be March 25th at 7:00 AM only. All students who want to take this class will need to come to GHS with a check for $100 made out to GHS, paper and pen/pencil. You can not miss the first day.  All students with permits who want to do the driving part of Driver Ed can have their parents email or call Mr. Swain at GHS.

 

 

 

TOPIC:  Spring Concert Series at Teen Center

 

The Georgetown Project, in partnership with City of Georgetown Parks & Recreation, invite all GHS students to the spring live music series planned at the Teen Center (located in the Georgetown Recreation Center) on Austin Avenue.  The second concert is this Saturday at 5 p.m., so come on out to the Teen Center and enjoy snacks, drinks--and back by popular demand--live music from Rise and Fall. This is not a school sponsored event.

  

Lunch Menu:  Homestyle turkey, breadstick, and corn

  

Have a safe Spring Break, we will return to school on March 22nd.

TOPIC:  Miss Cedar Park Teen Today’s Girl

Congratulations to Libertie H who was crowned Miss Cedar Park Teen Today on Sunday. Libertie competed in the Cedar Park pageant on Sunday after competing in the NJROTC State Championship Drill meet at Texas A&M on Friday and Saturday.  She will now advance to the Teen Today state competition in Dallas on June 13, 2010. 

 

 

TOPIC:  German

Congratulations to Jacob B and Paige M who both placed in the State German Speaking contest - Sprachfest. Jacob placed third in both Directed Dialog and Prose reading. Jacob placed 7th in Sight reading. Paige placed 6th in Prose reading.  Congratulations to both for doing so well!

 

 

TOPIC:  TAKS Test

The TAKS test is tomorrow. All students need to report to the Ninth Grade Campus in the morning instead of going to the High School. You will report here and go to your assigned room to take the TAKS test.

 

New test security measures have been implemented to ensure the best possible testing environment. Cellular phones are not allowed in testing rooms. You must leave your phone at home, lock it up in a secure location, or turn it in prior to testing. Students will not be allowed to bring cellular phones into testing rooms. Cameras, i-Pods, calculator watches, handheld  electronic organizers such as palm pilots, and other electronic devices are also prohibited.

 

 

 

TOPIC:  Cheerleader Tryouts

If you are interested in trying out for JV cheer and mascot please come by the diamond and

pick up an application from Mrs. Evans or from Mrs. Melendez in the dance studio. You and a parent/guardian must attend a mandatory meeting. The last meeting is scheduled for March 3rd

at 7:00 pm in the GHS Library.

 

For anyone interested in trying out for 9th grade cheer, JV cheer, or Varsity cheer and mascots:

The last parent/candidate MANDATORY cheer meeting will be on Wednesday, March 4th - 7pm in the GHS Library.

The J.V. track meet is Thursday, March 4th at GEORGETOWN HS. Parents and students please

go to volunteerspot.com and sign up to work at the meet. The middle school coaches will not be able to help since they are having a track meet as well. The Booster club parents will have a meeting tonight, March 1st at 6:30 in the field house classroom to go over all the details.

 

 

TOPIC:  Choir Dance

Hey guys, the Starlight Dance is this Friday night! This will be the last week to buy a ticket to the dance. Any GHS Ninth Grade student can come. You do no need a date, you can come by yourself or with a group of friends. The cafeteria decorations are going to be awesome! Also, a photographer will be available for photos. Tickets are $10.00 in advance or $15.00 at the door. This is going to be an event you will not want to miss out on. Check out our DJ, he will be at both lunches tomorrow.

TOPIC:  Art

This weekend was the Visual Arts Scholastic Event at San Marcos High School. This huge art competition drew over 2,800 works of art from all around Central Texas. 48 art students from the NGC took a total of 87 works of art to this competition. 72 of those entries earned the highest possible scores, and 6 students were selected to advance to State competition in Houston on April 10th:  Emily B, Rocio A- taking 2 pieces to State, Kourtney G, Kemly G, Carter C, and Jara S. We are proud of ALL of our students who went to competition on Saturday! Congratulations!

TOPIC:  Choir

On Friday, 14 Choir students competed at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Westwood H.S. We are proud to announce that all 14 of these students received a division one rating which is the highest rating earned. We are very proud of each one of you for your hard work and a job well done!! Congratulations to: Patrick B, David Y, Kirsten K, Karlie K, Jordan W, Krysta F, Alyssa H, Alex C, Carolina D, Mckenzie P, Jonna H, Keeley M, Wendy B, and Maddie S.

TOPIC:  Sparklers

On Saturday, the Sparklers Dance Team attended the "Heart of Texas Dance Classic" in Temple and earned the following awards:  Team Sweepstakes and Award of Excellence, Judges Award for Jazz, Judges Award for Pom, Best Overall Technique, Best Overall Presentation, Best Overall Precision, Best Overall Choreography, Best in Class Team, Academic Champions with a team

GPA of 3.54

 

The Sparklers also received individual recognition in the solo category for the Divison I Superior Ratings earned by Jonna H and Audra Rr. Jonna H' s solo received 2nd runner up overall in the JV division. 

 

Performing the duet category were Whitney B & Savannah M, Gabby H & Stephanie S, Erin K & Alyssa S.   All three of our Sparkler duets received a Division I Superior Ratings, with H & Sl earning 1st runner up, and K & S winning the category. 

 

The Sparklers would like to thank all of the NGC staff and students who helped us to get to contest.  We really appreciate everything!!!"
