Georgetown is located about 35 miles north of Austin, the capital of Texas. From I-35, take the RM-2243/Leander exit - exit number 260. Head West on 2243 for 1/2 mile, turn left on Rockcrest Drive. Turn right on Thousand Oaks. This will take you directly into the school parking lot. Some of the interests in this area include the University of Texas, several computer manufacturing companies, Lake Georgetown, the scenic Hill Country, and Sun City Retirement Community. Georgetown has its own scenic and historic downtown area with the original buildings built over a century ago. The town originally grew as a result of the Chisholm Trail passing through it and later because of the railroad. Georgetown is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas. G.I.S.D. has been recognized by the state of as an outstanding school district
