Overview

Our computer labs at Pickett  contain 26 personal computers (Dell Optiplex).  Our teachers strive to integrate technology as useful instructional tools into all areas of the curriculum.  Each student is afforded many opportunities to learn through utilizing our technology.

The computer programs we use at our school range from common business applications to educational software.

Software Purpose/Benefit
Accelerated Reader Tests student comprehension of books read.
Star Test to determine a comprehension reading level.
CEI Language base program.
Essential Learning Systems Improves vocabulary and fluency.
Kid Pix Deluxe 3 Multimedia software that allows students to create their own graphics and create presentations.
Trudy's Time and Place House Teaches and reviews time concepts and general learning concepts.
Type to Learn 3 Teaches keyboarding techniques such as home row, proper finger usage and reach.
Microsoft Word Word processing software students use to type research papers, poems, and learn word processing skills.
Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet program students use to organize information and create charts and graphs.
Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation software students use to create multimedia presentations by importing graphics and sound.
Microsoft Publisher Publishing software students use to create newsletters, greeting cards, and desktop publishing documents.
Microsoft Access Database software students use to store information.
Microsoft FrontPage Web design software students use to create web pages.
Internet Explorer Web browser students use to access the world wide web.
United Streaming Web program where students have access to a variety of education videos.

The Technology Applications TEKS are organized by grade clusters. Students should demonstrate proficiency with specific grade cluster TEKS before they exit the target grades 2, 5, and 8.  At the high school level, opportunities for in-depth study of technology are offered through a variety of courses.
