Federal Programs :: Homeless Student Programs
The Georgetown Independent School District, through the provisions of the McKinney-Vento Project, helps provide educational services and referrals to health and other appropriate services to students who are homeless.
Under the definition of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act, the term "homeless" includes individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, such as those who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; are living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative accomodation; are living in emergency or transitional shelters; are abandoned in hospitals; are awaiting foster care placement, or who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, or other places not designed or ordinarily used as sleeping accomodations.
