Outreach Programs & Services :: Alternative Education
Georgetown Independent School District offers several alternative education environments for students. The purpose of these alternative education placements (AEPs) is to provide at-risk students with an innovate instructional environment that helps motivate the students to develop appropriate self-discipline and coping skills.
Special Opportunity School (SOS) - Grades K-5
SOS is the state-mandated alternative education placement for all GISD elementary students needing a long-term disciplinary placement. The program is designed to challenge students academically and socially by using problem-solving instructional strategies and a strong behavior management system. The target population for the SOS program is students who commit habitual and major violations outlined in the GISD Student Code of Conduct. SOS is located at Village Elementary School, but serves students from all GISD elementary campuses. For more information on the SOS program, contact Francis Jackson, 943-5030.

The GAP is intended to provide educational services to students who have experienced major behavioral difficulties at their previous campuses or in the community. The major goal of the educational program at the GAP is to insure that students do not fall behind in their coursework while not in a regular campus setting and to prepare them to behave in an appropriate manner when they return to a regular campus setting.
