SUPPORT & SERVICE PROVIDERS

Richarte Counseling Services

Richarte High School has a full-time Licensed School Counselor including a full range of strengths-based counseling services for students and parents. We provide crisis, individual, and group counseling to students on campus, as well as crisis counseling to parents via telephone and in person. When appropriate, students and/or their families are referred to community agencies for issues including, but not limited to: drug/alcohol abuse, family issues, possible psychiatric disorders, and housing/financial needs. Contact Rhonda Smith at (512) 943-5000 x7512.

Intervention Services

Intervention Services is a private, non-profit social service agency with therapists and counselors on several GISD, Leander, and Round Rock campuses.  Therapists at Intervention Services provide a broad range of mental heath services, including group, individual, family, and couples counseling, as well as provide referrals for other services to students, families, and GISD employees.  In the school setting, the therapists work with clients individually and in groups to address psychological/emotional issues affecting individuals at home, work, and school.

Dorothy Kay Sullivan is the Intervention Services therapist at RHS.  One day a week, she attends our SAIL meeting and counsels several students individually.  These counseling services are free to students, but a permission form must be signed by a parent/guardian of the student receiving services.  To contact Intervention Services directly for counseling services outside of school, call (512) 763-0478.

Student Assistance and Intervention Liaison (SAIL) Team

Students experiencing academic, behavior, emotional, economic, or family problems are at risk of dropping out of school.  SAIL offers a strengths-based identification and referral process for these students, with the goal of providing support for the students and their families.  Students are referred to the SAIL team by teachers, counselors, parents, administrators and more.  Through the process, students and/or their families are connected to on-campus services and/or community resources.  These services and resources will assist students in overcoming barriers to academic success, including, but not limited to emotional and behavior issues.  If you have any questions about the SAIL process at RHS or you would like to make a referral, please call the SAIL Coordinator, Rhonda Smith at (512) 943-5000 x7232.

Post-secondary Counseling

A focused effort began in the 1998-99 school year to help students continue their education after graduation.  This has intensified in the 2007 school year with pre-intake career interest assessments.  A class was added in the 2006-07 school year to provide work based learning skills, to include filling out an application, resume building, and interviewing. Students are challenged to focus on career planning with the courses they take in high school, dual credit courses that get them college credit while still in high school, as well as job selection in high school that prepares them for their career future.  Students are provided opportunities to attend college/career fairs in the fall and spring.  College and technical school catalogs, financial aid and scholarship counseling assistance, along with preparing for TASP/SAT/ACT exams is a continuous year long process.

Nursing Services

Richarte High School has a full-time registered nurse on staff.  She emphasizes prevention and health promotion as well as early detection and interventions in order to decrease the incidence and impact of illnesses.  Vision, hearing, scoliosis and acanthosis nigricans screenings are accomplished as per state mandates.  Immunizations are monitored on an on-going basis. The nurse serves on the SAIL team and is an active member of the Pregnancy Education Parenting advisory committee. The nurse also serves as the District Nurse Coordinator and tends to the health needs at Eagle Wings Child Development Center.  Contact Mary McKenna, BSN., RN at (512) 943-5000 x7234.

Eagle Wings Child Development Center
The child development center has an early childhood curriculum and enrolls children of  GISD students who are participating in the PEP program.  Students must follow the guidelines outlined in the handbook that is provided and must be enrolled in or have completed one credit in Parenting for School Age Parents.
