02/09/2012 - STAAR Testing Parent Awareness Session on February 28th

Georgetown, Texas • February 9, 2012

There’s a new STAAR on the horizon and it will have an impact on all students throughout Georgetown ISD. Beginning this spring, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness or STAAR, will be replacing the well known TAKS test as the standardized testing measure for the State of Texas. There are many questions surrounding the new assessments, and Georgetown ISD is taking steps to address those questions from parents and the community.

A STAAR Parent Forum will be held on February 28th at 7:00 PM in the lecture hall at Georgetown East View High School. This information session is for all parents. GISD staff, representing elementary, middle school, and secondary schools, will be available to answer questions and clarify testing issues. For more information regarding the parent awareness session, please contact Dr. Brenda Albright at (512) 943-5012.

STAAR tests will be administered to students in grades 3-8, and End of Course exams will affect students taking high school level courses in the four core subject areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
