Mentoring can make a BIG difference in someone’s life. By dedicating as little as 30 minutes with a student at their campus, mentoring can improve self-esteem and encourage kids to stay in school, improve their academic skills, and provide support for new behaviors and ambitions.
The Georgetown ISD Mentoring Program will pair students and community members so that both the Mentor and Mentee will have a rewarding experience. Mentoring opportunities are available at every Georgetown ISD school. Over 1200 students are on the waiting list hoping to have a mentor. Just a small amount of time per week can really help a student in our community.
All mentor volunteers must successfully complete and clear a criminal background check through the GISD "Mentor Fast Track Application" process on the Georgetown ISD home page. Completing the standard Volunteer application does not approve individuals for mentoring.
All Mentor volunteers must attend one Mentor Volunteer Training session prior to mentoring. Mentor Volunteer Training sessions are offered the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 AM at the GHS Annex (2295 Austin Avenue) in Room 132. Additional trainings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Prothro Building, Room 147 at Southwestern University.
