Personal Interests:

I have 2 children, Miles and Piper.  Miles is in Middle School this year at the Kealing Math and Science Magnet School in Austin.  Piper is a Kindergartener this year.  We love to play guitars, keyboards, and bongos, and we go to the park every chance we get!  We all love to read, and create anything artistic (drawings, paintings, jewelry).  I am so happy that I can share my interests with the students of Tippit during classes and Stretch!

Times, they are a-changin'!

Many changes have occurred in the ESL Program at Tippit Middle School.  Last Spring, we piloted 2 new programs at Tippit, the TMS Newcomer Academy, and our SIOP Program.

We designed and instituted the Newcomer Academy for students new to the United States who understand little English.  Students in this program attend all content area classes with ESL teachers: Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and the Basics class--"Survival" English.  They attend regular Tippit elective courses, such as art, keyboarding, languages, and career connections.  This year, we even have a student in the Tippit Eagle Band!

Also instituted Spring of 2008 was our Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol Program.  Regular Content Area teachers are specially trained to serve ESL students by modifying instruction, materials, and assessments.  The "SIOP" Model began in 6th grade two years ago, and grew to 7th grade last year, and now encompasses the 8th grade this school year.  SIOP promises to be an exciting way to ensure our ESL students' success!
