Objectives:

6.3 (A)  plan and implement investigative procedures including asking questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and selecting and using equipment and technology;

6.4 (B)  collect data by observing and measuring;

6.6(D)  communicate valid conclusions; 6.6 and

6.28(A)  differentiate between structure and function;

6.29(B)  determine that all organisms are composed of cells that carry on functions to sustain life;  and

6.30 (C) identify how structure complements function at different levels of organization including organs, organ systems, organisms, and populations.

 

Activities & Resources:

Tuesday/Wednesday (Three Parts)
1.         Students will copy the three (3) transparencies on cell vocabulary. (Cell, Cell wall, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Nuclear membrane, Chromosomes, Organelles, Vacuole, Mitochondria, Ribosomes, Golgi bodies, Endoplasmic reticulum, Diffusion, Mitosis and Meiosis)

2.         Video Quiz

            While students are watching the Video “CELL DIVISION” (17 minutes); they will the take the quiz called CLOZE EVALUATION QUESTION.  All test are due at the end of the video. (Questions are in order)
3.         The Cell Word Search due Friday ( if students need extra time)

 

Wednesday/Thursday

Several Activities for today.

1 of 4    Students will be assigned groups for the Edible Cell Activity. (Groups will be the same as the ramp please remind students)
Each group member will be responsible for one item on the list. The list includes:
1. a small bag of pull and peel licorice (Must say pull and peel on the side of the package)
2. Air head candy (three (3) different colors)
3. Five (5) inch Styrofoam ball

4.  If a fourth person is in the group (three inch Styrofoam ball
These items will be due on 4/22/09 {next Wednesday}

The teacher will bring the rest

Label the microscope

Students will learn how to focus the microscope. (teacher demonstration only basic 1. head to the side of the microscope only only at the space between the objective and glass slide. 2. When focusing the microscope always move the objective away from the glass slide.  This will always prevent breakage.
