Throughout the year, we work on different projects.  Ample time is given IN CLASS to complete the projects.  Please be RESPONSIBLE in meeting the due date and turning in your best work.  Projects are normally given a TEST grade.

Activities & Resources:

VOCABULARY TEST THURSDAY!

Monday
03-8-10

 1. Warm-up - 10 minutes -TAKS Reading/Writing Objs: Students will do wkbk. p. 11 from the Texas Test Prep. Workbook.  Grade and discuss with mini-lesson as needed.

 2. Literature - Literature Study With Self-Selected Assessment: Students will begin reading the novel The Search for the Shadow Man, Chapter 10.  While reading the novel, the students will be required to complete the following activities:

             1. Story board in packet

             2. Take home test of self-selected questions written into a response composition about the novel (2 pages)

     These items will be worth 2 major test grades. A complete explanation of each activity can be found on the front of the packet.  Much of this work will be done in class, but it will be necessary to work on this project at home as well.

 

Entire project (story board and essay) due Friday, April 9

 

3. Context Clues--Students will read a paragraph containing several nonsense words.  They will have to use context clues to figure out what the words mean.  They will write their answers on the paper.

4. In any remaining time, students will continue working on their road maps of life we began Friday in class.

HOMEWORK: FINISH READING ASSIGNED CHAPTERS; WORK ON STORY BOARD. VOCABULARY DUE WEDNESDAY.

03-9-10

             1. Story board in packet

             2. Take home test of self-selected questions written into a response composition about the novel (2 pages)

3. We will do a review for the vocabulary for the novel.  The vocabulary test will be tomorrow over all 12 words.

4.  Literary skill: Summarization;  Students will read a passage and practice summarization using a story pyramid.  Students will end up having to come up with a summary that is 20 words or less using the pyramid.

03-11-10

 2. Literature - Literature Study With Self-Selected Assessment: Students will begin reading the novel The Search for the Shadow Man, Chapter 13. While reading the novel, the students will be required to complete the following activities:

             1. Story board in packet

             2. Take home test of self-selected questions written into a response composition about the novel (2 pages)

     These items will be worth 2 major test grades. A complete explanation of each activity can be found on the front of the packet.  Much of this work will be done in class, but it will be necessary to work on this project at home as well.

3. Students will take the vocabulary test for the novel.

4.  Literary skill: Summarization (Beginning, Middle, End)--Students will read a different passage today and practice summarizing using the BME method.  They will need to make sure they include the important events from the beginning, the middle, and the end.

03-12-10

 1. Warm-up - 10 minutes -TAKS Reading/Writing Objs: Students will do wkbk. p. 16 from the Texas Test Prep. Workbook.  Grade and discuss with mini-lesson as needed.

2. We will grade the vocabulary test in class.

 3. Literature - Literature Study With Self-Selected Assessment: Students will begin reading the novel The Search for the Shadow Man, Chapter 14. While reading the novel, the students will be required to complete the following activities:

             1. Story board in packet

             2. Take home test of self-selected questions written into a response composition about the novel (2 pages)

     These items will be worth 2 major test grades. A complete explanation of each activity can be found on the front of the packet.  Much of this work will be done in class, but it will be necessary to work on this project at home as well.

4.  Literary skill: Summarization (Somebody Wanted But So Then)--Students will read a passage "The Mystery Guest" and summarize it using the SWBST strategy.
