LIBRARY HOURS OF
OPERATION
Student library hours are 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The library is open for quiet reading and study before
school. No pass is needed during that time. However, a library pass is needed
during regular school hours, including recess.
The library is closed during
7th period each day. Students may not come to the library during
that time unless accompanied by a teacher.
LIBRARY ETIQUETTE
The library is a place where
at any one time there may be class instruction, students testing or
completing homework, students checking out books and/or reading.
It is important to respect all library patrons (customers).
Talking should be kept at a minimum and at a low volume so as not to
disturb others. The volume on the computers' speakers should be
just loud enough for the user to hear. Visiting the Tippit Library
is a fun privilege. Students who do not practice library etiquette
will be asked to return to class or recess.
CHECK OUT POLICY
Students may check out two
books for a two-week period, which may be renewed for an additional two weeks. An additional
two books may be checked out if needed to complete a class assignment.
Encyclopedia volumes (World Book 2001)
may be checked out overnight and are due by 8:30 a.m. the following school
day.
Interlibrary loan
is available from the Georgetown Public Library and GISD libraries. This allows us to
increase our collection without finding the necessary shelf space, while also
providing additional resources to enhance the curriculum and satisfy student
interests. However, students who wish to check out books only available
at the 9th grade campus or high school library will need a signed permission
slip from parent/guardian.
LIBRARY
FINES
Overdue notices will be
distributed
to language arts teachers and students on a regular basis. A late fee of
.10 per day may be charged, with a ten-day grace period. No fee
will be due for books returned within this period. However, books
returned after the grace period may be assessed fines beginning with the
first date overdue. In addition, a
replacement fee will be charged for lost or damaged books. Students are
expected to be responsible library citizens. Failure to return books in
a timely manner may result in loss of library privileges and other
consequences.
COMPUTERS
The library computers are for
academic and instructional use during the school day. Students may search databases and the Internet for classroom assignments,
and access the library catalog. Before school and during recess,
students may also access their gaggle.net (school e-mail) account.
The Internet is to be utilized as an instructional tool--no random
surfing, chat rooms, unapproved games, or music streaming allowed. All
computers are monitored by Technology for appropriate activity.
LIBRARY PRINTER
Students are welcome to use
the library's black ink laser jet printer for assignments. Color printing is handled by
Technology.
