MEDICATION POLICY
The Georgetown ISD requires that all students who need ANY
medications during school hours follow the guidelines listed below.
Prescription Medications:
 | Present to the nurse a written request signed by the parent or legal
guardian (with the child's first and last names) |
 | Bring the medication in the ORIGINAL PRESCRIPTION BOTTLE, properly labeled
by a registered pharmacist as prescribed by law. |
 | Long-term medication (longer than 4 weeks) may be given by district
personnel provided the prescribing physician completes the district
medication permission form. This form may be obtained from the school nurse
or downloaded from this web site. |
 | Prescription medications must have current dates. Pharmacies will usually
make a "school" bottle if requested( this will eliminate having to
transport medication each day). |
Nonprescription medications:
 | Medication must be sent in ORIGINAL BOTTLE or container. |
 | A written request from parent/guardian is sent, including: child's
first and last name, the name and strength of the medication, the amount to
be given and the time to be given, how many days, what it is being
given for, and if it is to be given as needed or on schedule. |
 | This request will be given for five (5) school days. Please write the
student's name and room number on the bottle. |
Medications are not provided by the school. Medications cannot and will not
be given at school if the above policy is not followed. Please check the
medication expiration date on the container before sending to school.
