Welcome to my home page! I am a literacy teacher at Village Elementary. I have been teaching for 27 years. I have taught pre-kindergarten, first grade, and fifth grade. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I am also certified to teach Early Childhood, handicapped Early Childhood and English as a Second Language. This is my eleventh year as a teacher in Georgetown ISD. My job as a literacy teacher is to help the students that are having difficulty in the reading area. The primary students become eligible through two reading assessments given by the classroom teacher. One assessment is the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) and the other assessment is Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI). When a child qualifies for the literacy program they will attend literacy classes usually with their classmates. The students will come to the literacy room for 25 to 30 minutes each day. I use the Open Court Phonics program just as our primary teachers do. The kindergarten and first grade teachers provide me with a schedule of their teaching points for the week then I reinforce what the classroom teacher has introduced or will introduce each day. The second grade students are also using the Open Court Phonics program as a review of what they have previously been taught. We use the TAKS benchmark tests for the upper grade students to qualify for the literacy program.
