Social Studies

We started our Social Studies unit today on “Our Country Long Ago.”  We are learning about Native Americans, early explorers, pioneers, and settlers.

Math

Thank you for your help in working with your child on Telling Time.  Be sure to continue practicing this life skill.  They were tested over this today and will be tested again in the next Math Checkpoint.  In the next chapter, we will begin “Doubling, Halving and Fractions.”  Children will build their understanding of halving and doubling to explore fractions in a number of different contexts.

Keep practicing those Addition and Subtraction Facts!  I would love to have every student’s name displayed in the hall for learning their facts! Camille passed her Addition Fact Test for the 1st time and Destiny, Victoria and Piper have all passed their Subtraction Fact Test at least 1 time!

I am going to start the “1,000’s Club”  this week.  Students will practice writing their #’s to 1,000.  When they finish this, they get their name displayed in the classroom and get a free homework pass.

Language Arts

Our Reading story for this week is “The Swallow’s Gift.”   We will be working on Cause and Effect as our reading skill.  Also, we will review character traits.

Thanks everyone who continue to total those reading minutes for me.  I appreciate your help.  Remember 80 minutes (or more) a  week.

Enrichment

Research a Native American tribe.  (Choose a tribe different than the ones we have read about in our Social Studies book.)  Be able to tell where your tribe lived, what they ate, homes they lived in, and other interesting facts.  You may make a poster to share, bring Indian artifacts, books, pictures, etc.  Anything you think your classmates would enjoy.

Other News

Thanks for those that have sent cans for our canned food drive.  We are continuing this week.  All cans will go to GHS for hungry families.  The class with the most cans will have an ice cream sundae party and extra recess.  Please help us to win!  We would love some ice cream and extra recess!

Check out the Progress Reports, sign, and return tomorrow.

Reflections Recognition Ceremony will be held on November 24 at 6:00 in the Village cafeteria.  Congratulations to Victoria and Camryn for your participation in this event.

Don’t forget Run for Life is every Friday.  Feel free to come join your child for the exercise.  They love to have their parents participate with them.

Don’t forget about our Thanksgiving Feast this Friday in our cafeteria at 11:15.  We hope you can come!

We will come to school only 2 days next week, due to our Thanksgiving holiday.  Gobble, Gobble!!

In a time of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for each and everyone of the precious children you allow me teach.  Thank you for sharing!
