Welcome to Poulter's G/T Pages! I am so happy you dropped by! I am the (newly established) G/T facilitator for Kindergarten through 2nd grade, splitting my time between Village Elementary and Ford Elementary. This is an exciting opportunity for me and I look forward to the challenge--of challenging the gifted/talented students! Now--a little about the program. The GISD G/T program for K-2 is a pull-out program for all students who qualified through the nomination, testing, and committee selection process. In conjunction with their classroom teachers, I will be establishing a schedule of classes and trying to support the established curriculum with higher-level thinking and tasks. Each week, I will hold two 45-minute sessions for Math per grade level and two 45-minute sessions of Research/Interdisciplinary class per grade level. The exception is Kindergarten, whose services will begin March 1, 2010. Kindergarten students will receive one 45-minute session of both Math and Research per week. I will also be working alongside teachers to assist with reading groups, using the Junior Great Books curriculum, for 2nd graders. Nominations for the G/T program begin in November. We will test all 2nd graders in October to assess student needs. Teachers and parents may nominate their children as well. We will have an informational meeting on how to recognize giftedness in October. Keep a lookout in your Eagle folders and newsletters for dates to be determined. After nominations have begun, I will conduct further testing and parents and teachers will be asked to fill out a packet of information regarding the behaviors indicating giftedness. When all information is collected and testing is complete, a committee of teachers and administrators will review and make final decisions regarding whether a child is qualified to enter the G/T program. If you have any questions regarding this process (after attending our meeting), please contact me at 943-5000, Village Ext. 7439. I will respond within 24 hours. And about me: I live in Georgetown with my family (husband John, sons Cole and Fox). We have lived in Georgetown on and off for the last 12 years, with a short interval in Round Rock and a two-year stint living in England. I am happiest in Texas, but have a passion for traveling and have been to loads of exciting destinations, including Dubai, Barcelona, Budapest, Paris, and of course--London! As for what I do when not traveling, I consider myself a home chef and foodie. Chopping and baking relax me and my friends and family receive the benefits! I also sing, spend time with the family and my fabulous girlfriends, love movies, live theater and music, and enjoy a good book. Finally, I am a proud member of a University of Texas tailgate group called the TexasFight Club...I can be found somewhere on campus for every home game (unless I am shopping at the Co-op!) Hook 'em Horns!!
