Reading is one of the most important skills children will ever learn. The Accelerated Reader Program is just one way students can be encouraged to read and develop a love for reading.

The Accelerated Reader Program is used to MOTIVATE, CHALLENGE and CELEBRATE READING!

What is Accelerated Reader?

The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is a computer based program where students select challenging books they will enjoy reading.  After reading the book, students take quizzes on the books and earn points.  Points earned are used to purchase PRIZES from the AR store as well as BOOK BUCKS that can be used during book fairs to purchase books.

When do students take quizzes?

Students may take quizzes at the following times...

bullet

During weekly library visits

bullet

In the classroom and computer lab with teacher permission

bullet

In the library before school (7:30 -7:50am) --- 5th grade on Mondays, 4th grade on Wednesdays, and 3rd grade on Fridays

Where can you get the books?

Students can get books from home, the public library, a bookstore, or from our very own Williams Elementary Library!  Just look for the blue AR label on the spine of the book or the library website for a complete list of AR Quizzes.

Incentives and Certification

Points and goals start over at the beginning of each school year.

Students must score at least 80% for points and certification to count. Any AR quiz below 80% will be deleted. Students may retake a quiz the following day after reviewing the book.

AR Reading Ladder

The AR Reading Ladder is posted in the hallway outside the Williams Elementary Library and recognizes students participating in the program who have achieved certain levels of certification.  Names of students will be placed on the AR Reading Ladder after successfully reading the following:
