Squid Dissection Squid is a marine mollusk. They are closely related to the cuttlefish, nautilus, and octopus. Squid may vary in size from a few inches to nearly 40 feet in length. Their bodies are a dark gray with red spots. Squid look like small torpedoes. They have 8 arms and 2 long tentacles that they use to catch and eat their food. Ms. Sloan's Science class studied and dissected twelve squid. A written test and lab practical was given. WOW, what a GREAT learning experience! Click on any picture to enlarge Spiny Dogfish Ms. Sloan's science class studied and dissected eight "Spiny Dogfish Sharks". The Spiny Dogfish shark is the most abundant shark in the sea. This small shark is found worldwide. It is a small shark that is deep gray with white spots and an off-white belly. The Dogfish shark's average length is from three to four feet long. It has two dorsal fins, short snout, large eyes and no anal fin. The Spiny Dogfish eats mostly fish but also eats squid and octopus. They are called dogfish because they travel and hunt in packs.
