I am looking forward to a wonderful and productive 2018-19 school year at Benold Middle School, and I am honored to have the chance to teach your child! This will be my sixth year here at Benold and my eighth year teaching, and I'm looking forward to an exciting time!
I'm a Texas native, born and raised in the Houston area. I attended high school at William P. Clements High School in Sugar Land, TX before heading to Texas State University (formerly known as Southwest Texas) and graduating in 2003. In addition to spending some time in the tech world at Apple Computer and Blizzard Entertainment, I have taught 9th and 10th grade English at Sherman High School in Sherman, TX.In my spare time, I enjoy reading, walking my miniature Schnauzer Pepper, exploring new places and restaurants around the Austin metroplex, geocaching in parks and urban areas, and traveling. The Houston Texans are my favorite sports team, so don't be surprised if you see a few posters and coffee mugs showing my Texan pride around the classroom!
My ClassThis year, we will be working hard to advance students' reading and writing skills. Students can plan on writing every single day. They will be reading almost as much as they are writing! Even so, we will find time for fun and socialization, and, frequently, the chance to improve our application of technology and digital citizenship. My hope is that my students will feel challenged in language arts while they discover their own voices and express themselves freely. At the same time, they should also learn the power of words, whether spoken or written, and begin to shoulder the responsibility of their communications.I expect every student to have a book that they are currently reading every day they come to class. We will use books as mentor texts for reading and writing practices, and students will log their progress through their reading and keep up an ongoing journal showing their reflections and plans for future reading.
