• Welcome to 5th Grade!

    Class Information

Welcome to a new and exciting year!  Fifth graders are leaders who are responsible and use growth mindset to achieve success when facing challenges. At Frost, we believe that all children should dream, explore, grow, lead, and serve.

    General Guidelines

Absences and tardies: Please have your child at school by 7:55 AM.

If your child is absent from school, they are expected to see their teacher immediately to collect any missed work. It is your child's responsibility to return completed make-up work in a timely manner. A written excuse is required for all absences. See GISD policy regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Our official conference time is from 8:45-9:30 each day; however, we are happy to work out another time if that is not convenient for you. Please call or email us to set up an appointment.

Grades:  We encourage you to sign up for Skyward Family & Student Access (in Quick Links). It is a wonderful way to keep up with your child’s grades and attendance.

Homework: District policy: 10 points are taken off per day that work is late. Any work not finished during the day may also be sent home.

Tuesday Folders:  Each Tuesday, your child will bring home folders that contain graded work and important letters from class and school.  Please review the paperwork and return the empty folder on Wednesday.

Retest Policy:  Your scholar's graded work will come home in their Tuesday folder. If your scholar failed a TEST, you may request a retest BY THEN END OF THE DAY WEDNESDAY. Your scholar will have the opportunity to correct their test to earn back half the points deducted.

Breakfast: Scholars can go to breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:30-7:45. If your child plans to eat breakfast at school, please make sure he/she arrives before 7:45.

Water Bottles: Water bottles will be permitted in classrooms AFTER lunch/recess. If it becomes a distraction, this privilege may be suspended.

Notes and Money:  Send all money in a sealed envelope with both your child’s name and the homeroom teacher's name on it. Please make sure to communicate to your child that he or she is responsible for turning it in to the homeroom teacher.

Transportation: It is critical that communication regarding transportation home is timely!  We may not be able to check messages before or after our conference period. If you need to change your child’s method of transportation home, please send a note AND call the front office at 512-943-5020 to make arrangements by 1:00 PM that day. Students WILL NOT be permitted to change their own transportation.

If you are unsure of which bus your child takes, please go to the GISD website and look under the FOR PARENTS tab and see Transportation Information (in Quick Links).  For other questions, you may also call Transportation directly: 512-943-5126.

    Student Expectations

Students are held to high academic and behavioral standards.  These are centered around those laid out in our TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) as well as the 7 Habits of Happy Kids (aligned with Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People).

Behavior: Frost is using Class Dojo as a way to communicate both positive behavior and misbehavior. You will be given a code at the beginning of the year so you can stay updated daily!

For more serious infractions, we may contact parents / guardians directly. Recurring issues will be handled through appropriate channels and may involve the counselor and principals.

    Parent Expectations

    ·          Check to see homework is completed.

    ·          Read and practice math facts with your child at home daily.

    ·          Review the Tuesday folder.

    ·          Keep an open line of communication with teachers.

Together, we will make it a successful year for your scholar!
