Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Cynthia Urban
I have been an art teacher at FMS for five years and I currently serve as the Fine Arts Department Chair. Forbes is actually my "zoned" school and it warms my heart to be with my neighbors. Middle school is a three-year period of time when students experience extremely rapid cognitive, social and emotional growth. I thoroughly enjoy witnessing my students' creative development first-hand. Being creative prepares our students for the future's growing demand for innovation. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build the youth for our future.”
Mrs. Urban's Policies
Students are responsible for providing and maintaining their own art supplies. If your child does not have supplies, he/she may not be able to fully participate in class. This is a tremendous disservice to your child. If you are unable to secure supplies, you are responsible for calling the school counselor/front office so that they can direct you on where you can get supplies for low or no cost. Please refer to the supply tab on this website for the supply list. Please communicate to Mrs. Urban immediately if there are extenuating circumstances.
Art students will be graded based on work completed and uploaded on to Google Classroom. If work is "submitted" without actual work uploaded, it will receive a failing grade. Skyward is not always the most accuate way to check on your student's progress due to lag time. Google Classroom gives a much more accurate picture of progress. It is the most immediate way for parents to check on the work completed/impending deadlines of their child. Please do not allow your child to use personal gmail accounts for their Google Classroom. Google Classroom is accessed through a GISD-supplied email.
The easiest way to get in touch with me is through email. Yoy may email me at any time for your convenience but expect a response during typical business hours.
Thank you for supporting your child in art this year!
