Ms. Rachel Butler

Rachel Butler is the Director of Bands at James Tippit Middle School. In this role, she directs the Tippit Middle School Honors Band and teaches beginning brass classes. In addition, Ms. Butler assists with Symphonic Band.  She is beginning her 2nd year of teaching in Georgetown ISD and Tippit Middle School. Before coming to Georgetown ISD Ms. Butler taught in Austin ISD. She is excited beyond measure to grow and serve with these wonderful students!

Originally from Orlando, Florida, Ms. Butler moved to Austin in 2013 to pursue a graduate degree in Music and Human Learning at the Butler School of Music, on the beautiful campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Before her time in Texas, Ms. Butler was a student at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Music and History.

When she is not teaching, Ms. Butler enjoys running, composing music, arranging music for college and high school marching bands, traveling, reading, and enjoying the company of dear friends and family. 

Her professional affiliations include: the Texas Bandmasters Association and the Texas Music Educators Association.

Mr. Spencer Garretson

Spencer Garretson serves as Associate Director of Bands and Percussion director for East View High School in the Georgetown Independent School District. Mr. Garretson coordinates all aspects of percussion at East View HS and Tippit MS. Prior to joining the East View band staff Mr. Garretson was an Assistant Band Director at Burnet Middle School in Austin Independent School District where he served as conductor of the Burnet MS Concert Band and percussion specialist for the entire band program. Mr. Garretson also taught private lessons in Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD, and Lake Travis ISD for seven years before his tenure at Burnet MS. In addition he taught beginning percussion at Stiles Middle School in Leander ISD and directed the front ensemble at Round Rock High School. While at Round Rock HS Mr. Garretson was a vital part of the marching band’s most successful competition season in the 100 years of the schools existence, placing 4th at the2013 BOA Grand Nationals competition and earning the highest ever Grand Nationals percussion score.

Mr. Garretson attended Round Rock High School and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin. In 2008 and 2009 Mr. Garretson toured with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, serving as front ensemble captain both years. The Boston Crusaders front ensemble also finished first place percussion ensemble in the 2009 DCI Individual and Ensemble competition. While at the University of Texas he performed with the UT Percussion Group, Steel Band, Wind Symphony (under the direction of Dr. Rob Carnochan), Symphony Orchestra, and Opera. Mr. Garretson also had the opportunity to perform with Wind Ensemble under the direction of Jerry Junkin at the 2010 TMEA Convention in San Antonio.

In the summer when school is out of session Mr. Garretson loves travelling to new places and also serves as assistant director of Ratamacamp Percussion camps that take place in every major city in Texas
