Degrees and Certifications:
Associate Degree in Spanish - San Jacinto Junior College
B.A. in Sociology - The University of Texas at Austin
Masters in Education, Methods and Materials - Texas State UniversityHello!
I bet the first thing you are wondering is how do I pronounce her name? My name is Bregitta Dreibrodt. My last name is pronounced like "dry" and "boat" with an r in it..."dry brote". This will be my 26th year in GISD and I am so thankful that I get to work with the awesome teachers and scholars here at McCoy!
I started kindergarten in Aviano, Italy. I later moved back to the United States. I graduated from Elgin High School in 1988. I moved to the Houston area and attended San Jacinto Junior College. At this time I worked as a live-in nanny for [then] United States Astronaut Kathy Thornton. After graduating with an Associate in Spanish, I transferred to The University of Texas in Austin. I graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. I later attended Southwest Texas State [now known as Texas State] where I received a Masters in Education, with a Special Education Endorsement. My certifications include the following: Elementary, Grades 1-6/Reading, Grades1-8, Special Education, Grades K-12 and ESL.
My husband and I were married in 1996 and later we moved to Georgetown, Texas. I started working as a special education teacher at Benold Middle School, where I taught Resource Language Arts and later worked as an inclusion teacher for 7th grade. Then I became the Reading/Dyslexia teacher for that campus. In 2004, I transferred to McCoy Elementary, where I continued to work as a Dyslexia Interventionist. I taught second grade for one year and then moved up to teach fourth grade for several years. Now, I am back in second grade and I am so excited!
One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is to go kayaking. I also enjoy walking, gardening and scrapbooking.
Both of my children have attended GISD schools. They are both products of McCoy Elementary as well, and I am very proud of them! My son, Derek, recently graduated from The University of Texas McCombs Business school, and he started a new job in Dallas. My daughter, MaKenna, is a 2022 GHS graduate and she will be starting her second year at TCU. We also have two furry family members, Mac and Rosco. Their specialty is guarding our house! When my husband and I first moved to Georgetown, it was our dream that we could raise our kids in a wonderful community. We feel so blessed to be a part of this community and we are thankful for everything it has to offer our family!
