Eric Wegner was born in Salem, Oregon and grew up in beautiful Bend, Oregon, on the high desert, where he graduated from Mt. View High School. Here he learned to love people and enjoy what the locals call "God's Country". The community was fun-loving and tight-knit. It offers everything that one can imagine to do in the outdoors, and consequently, he loves to ski, ride horses, motorcycles and mountain bikes, canoe, swim, snorkel, fish, hunt, fish, camp, hike, go sight seeing and enjoy the history and culture of the land or region that he's in. Since his heritage is German, he studied German, as well as his further passions, English and Spanish. How he appreciates the rich Spanish and German settlement, culture, and heritage in Texas!

Mr. Wegner's undergraduate studies were at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, OR and Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR. He graduated from the University of Oregon with two Bachelor's degrees: one in German, one in English. His bachelor studies included a two-year residence and study at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg im Breisgau Germany through the Oregon/Baden-Württemberg University System Exchange Program. He says, "The city of Freiburg with its Münster and Münster-Platz is truly the "Pearl of Great Price" nestled at the foot of the Black Forest." His Master's degree, also from the University of Oregon, is in German and the thesis' title is: "Vorschläge zur Neutralisierung sexistischer Sprache im Deutschen". (Suggestions for Neutralization of Sexist Language in German, 1990) His Post-graduate degree from the Universität des Saarlandes (University of Saarland) in Saarbrücken Germany is in "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" (specializing in teaching German as a foreign language).

His professional teaching career began at the University of Oregon with a two-year term as a graduate teaching fellow of German in its German department. After graduation with the Master's degree, he was awarded a scholarship from the Fulbright Commission to teach American English to German students at two German state university prep schools, known as "Gymnasien" in Homburg (Saarland) Germany (staatliches Mannlich-Gymnasium and staatliches Saarpfalz-Gymnasium). There he also offered after school clubs in the Korean martial art of taekwondo, since he holds the first Dan or Black Belt. He offered classes in English as a second language at the Volkshochschule in Homburg (Saarland) Germany as well. Thereafter, he taught German for the University of Maryland in Europe at Ramstein Air Base, as well as many other locations in the Kaiserslautern area. During this time he taught German to the US military and their dependents through Central Texas College and the USO. He returned to Oregon and taught Spanish at Siuslaw High School in Florence, Oregon and German at Sunriver Preparatory School in Bend, Oregon. Yet, after just 15 months' residence in his home state of Oregon, a job offer beckoned from the United States Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) in Mannheim Germany, and therefore he had the pleasure of teaching German and Spanish at DoDDS for 15 years in Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Wiesbaden, Germany.

Mr. Wegner moved from Germany to Texas in 2015, where he became very happily married with five children. He says that it's his distinct privilege and pleasure to be a part of both East View and Georgetown High Schools, and that he intends to make this a great school year!
