Hello, my name is JoAnne Smith and I am thrilled to be the Librarian at Wolf Ranch Elementary! I have over 20 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. This will be my 4th year as a librarian. Prior to that, I taught Pre-K through 3rd grade and have volunteered with Jr. High and High School students in the church Youth group for over 10 years.
My goal is to provide a safe, positive learning environment where students can read, explore, and collaborate while using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Another goal is to provide our patrons with books that reflect mirrors to see themselves, windows to see experiences of others, and doors to the endless possibilities our world offers. Libraries are no longer quiet book repositories where students simply come to read and check out books. The library is alive and robust with active learners. Students will learn about digital citizenship, literacy, and research skills as well as work in cooperative groups in our Makerspace. I would love to see students extend their learning from their classroom into the library.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, quilting, relaxing, and spending time with my family and my precious dog. Leia has earned 3 official American Kennel Club Titles: Canine Good Citizen, Novice Tricks, & Intermediate Tricks. After much training and work, Leia and I recently became an official certified Pet Therapy Team with the Dog Alliance.
